The Green Path Project: an Indian flagship model

The South Indian social entrepreneur Mr H.R. Jayaram started his organic journey two decades ago. His visionary ideas and his passion for organic farming and ecological solutions made him start an organic farm, an organic shop, an eco hotel, an eco retreat and an eco experience center with a big organic store and restaurant. OWC: biggest organic farming event on the planet

The Organic World Congress (OWC) is a global forum for organic farming and organic agriculture. It is coming to India for the first time in 40 years and will take place from 9-11 November 2017 Greater Noida, New Delhi. The event will play a critical role in strengthening the world organic farming movement and tilting India’s agricultural. According to the organizers the OWC will welcome around 3,000 delegates from 110 countries. As a parallel event BioFach India together with India Organic Trade Fair will take place at the same venue.

Monsanto in trouble

Monsanto is in trouble for many reasons. Among others, the authorization of Monsanto’s flagship Roundup and its ingredient glyphosate is expiring in the EU by the end of this year. More and more weeds are resistant to Roundup. Monsanto’s ‘solution’ to this problem, another very toxic herbicide Dicamba, turns out to be a complete failure. The Monsanto Tribunal last fall in The Hague and court cases have been exposing the way Monsanto works, and this helps to inspire others to show the true cost of Monsanto’s business. Films and books were released too.

An Indian organic journey: Namu & Misha´s reunion

When old school friends Namu Kini and Misha Gill reunited as young mothers in their 30s, both decided to chuck up their corporate jobs and embark on an organic journey together. Germany: 20% organic acreage until 2030?

Almost six months after the election of the new German government last September, the governing coalition between CDU/CSU and SPD is now in place. One of the agreed goals of the two parties is to achieve 20% organic cultivation land by 2030. Swedish organic sales increased by 9.3 % in 2017

The total food market was valued at approximately SEK 300 billion (€30 billion) in 2017, including retail, Foodservice and Systembolaget. According to Statistics Sweden, the Consumer Price Index (CPI), food prices rose by about 2 percent in 2017. Ekoweb has summarized the preliminary sales figures for the organic food market for 2017 which shows that organic food sales increased by 9.3 percent in 2017.

European organic market grows to over 33 billion euros

The European Union is the world's second largest single market for organic products after the United States.In 2016, organic retail sales in Europe rose by 11.4 percent to 33.5 billion euros, while organic sales in the EU member states significantly exceeded the 30 billion euro mark and reached 30.7 billion euros. The figures were traditionally compiled by the Research Institute for Organic Agriculture (FiBL), the Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI) and partners and presented at the Biofach.

5th Organic Processing Conference: opportunities for an organic future

From 16th to 17th of January 2018, international stakeholders from the organic sector gathered at the 5th Organic Processing Conference (OPC) in Zwolle, Netherlands, to discuss digital opportunities for organic processors. India: BIIO showed many business opportunities and a market overview

BioFach India together with India Organic (BIIO) took place parallel to the IFOAM Organic World Congress (OWC) from 9 to 11 November 2017, at the India Expo Mart (IEML) in Greater Noida, near New Delhi. The organic fair duo was an excellent meeting place for the international organic sector. The 184 organic exhibitors at the 9th organic trade fair welcomed 9,645 visitors at the three days´event. Iris Bio – Passion for Pasta

Taifun: 30 years of tofu – everything revolves round the soya bean

Taifun 3 is the preliminary name of the newly developed soya variety. It is suited to growing in the European climate. Like other varieties, with which the Freiburg tofu specialist manufactures its products, it is the result of years of research in cooperation the University of  Hohenheim. During its 30-year history Taifun has never stood still and has long since become the market leader for organic tofu in Europe. In its big new building, that has created space for expansion and to meet the growing demand from home and abroad, tofu from 100% European soya beans is now coming off the production line (Video).

Expensive orchids: vanilla prices and the consequences

The weather and rising demand are driving up the price of vanilla pods. The spice is not yet worth its weight in gold, but a kilo is currently much more expensive than silver. A natural substitute doesn't exist, and quickly raising production levels is not an option.
