Monsanto in court

Tribunals are set up to deal with serious crimes, to indict people guilty of crimes against humanity and to punish them. In the middle of October the Monsanto Tribunal will be held in The Hague. For three days, this symbolic citizens' court will hear plaintiffs from all over the world present a summary of the offences committed by Monsanto. The aim is to get the criminal offence of ecocide recognised in international law.Taking place in parallel, the People´s Assembly will work on devising strategies and concepts for conserving resources and ensuring a viable future.

Natural cosmetics: ”Quality and company development secure the future”

The first quarter of 2016 the market registered growth of roughly 10 %. Together with the turnover of nature-based cosmetics, natural cosmetics have achieved a market share of around 15 %, i.e. turnover of approximately two billion euros. A super result in view of the saturated cosmetics market. Looking at these figures, it's important to note that long-term commitment by the companies pays off, not only in financial terms but also in physical growth. We talked with natural & organic cosmetics expert Elfriede Dambacher about developments, concepts and the future.

China – one of the top 4 organic markets worldwide

For years there were no official figures available for the organic market in the People's Republic of China, even though this huge country has for a long time been supplying a lot of organic products. According to the data we now have access to, catapulted China into fourth place in the worldwide ranking of organic markets. Karin Heinze has been travelling in China and at BioFach in Shanghai she spoke to the chairman of IFOAM-Asia Zhou Zheijang and Markus Arbenz, the managing director of IFOAM Organics International (Video and Gallery).

Current developments in the Russian organic market

In Europe, Russia is considered to be one of the worst performing countries in terms of the turnover of organic food. According to the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service, in 2012 sales of organic food in Russia amounted to 148 million US dollars, which represents growth of 7.8 % compared with 2011.

German enterprise Alnatura increases turnover by 16 %

Even after 30 years since it was founded Alnatura has once again impressed us all with a record result: in the last financial year 2013/2014 ending on 30 September 2014, the company’s turnover came to €689m net. Compared with the year before, this translates into a rise of 16 %.
