Vivaness: winners of the Best New Product Award

Vivaness was once again the international meeting place for the natural cosmetics industry. The fair hosted to 50,200 trade visitors from 134 countries. The Vivaness had 182 new products at the Vivaness Novelty Stand.

GOTS certified facilities increase 8,2% in 2017

The number of facilities certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard GOTS shows an increase of 8,2% to 5,024 facilities in 2017. GOTS certified facilities are located in 62 countries around the world. 

Weleda: 4.2% increase in sales worldwide

Last year, Weleda AG increased its total sales by 2.8 percent and achieved sales of more than 400 million euros for the first time.

Turkey: organic fair Ekoloji takes place in Izmir

Swedish organic sales increased by 9.3 % in 2017

The total food market was valued at approximately SEK 300 billion (€30 billion) in 2017, including retail, Foodservice and Systembolaget. According to Statistics Sweden, the Consumer Price Index (CPI), food prices rose by about 2 percent in 2017. Ekoweb has summarized the preliminary sales figures for the organic food market for 2017 which shows that organic food sales increased by 9.3 percent in 2017.

Spain with more than 2 million hectares of organic land

Monsanto demands data from glyphosate opponents before US court

Monsanto has sued the Avaaz campaign network. Avaaz shall transfer all internal data of its glyphosate campaign to Monsanto. The Supreme Court of the State of New York has issued an order to this effect. Avaaz has appealed and is collecting donations to defend itself against the corporation.

Genome editing: Legal expert criticises opinion of Attorney General of the EuCJ

On 18 January, the Attorney General of the EU Court of Justice (EuCJ) published his position on whether or not so-called genome editing must be regulated under current EU GMO legislation. On behalf of Testbiotech, expert Professor Ludwig Kraemer has analysed the position and says that there is no doubt that the new methods of genetic engineering must be regulated under the current EU Directive 2001/18.
