Continuing success of international natural cosmetics markets

Not only in Germany but on the international stage too the trend in the natural and organic cosmetics industry continues to be very positive development. In the leading market in Europe, the German market, demand shows no sign of slowing. According to Naturkosmetik Verlag, about nine million consumers buy natural cosmetics several times a year and their purchasing behaviour caused turnover in the first half of this year to grow by around two percent.  The “Green & Clean” trend is to be seen everywhere in neighbouring countries with robust market development and also internationally. However, manufacturers and the trade are having to confront a number of challenges.

The new Organic Regulation – status quo and outlook

At the IFOAM EU Organic Congress in Tallinn representatives of the EU and of the organic sector discussed pro and contra of the new European Organic Regulation (video). After a record time of more than three years and 18 trilogues Regulation probably will be launched in June 2020, although neither the Council and Commission nor the Parliament and the stakeholders of the organic sector are fully satisfied with the compromise.

IFOAM EU Congress: Roadmap for making Europe more organic

IFOAM EU members and guests from the organic industry as well as policymakers met for the 11th European Organic Congress (EOC) in the Estonian capital Tallinn from 5 - 6 September. The main topics of the first day were the Common European Agricultural Policy (CAP) and the possibilities to implement the ambitious goal of IFOAM EU to reach 50% European agricultural land managed according to organic principles by 2030 (Organic Vision 2030). Challenges and opportunities to developing organic farming under a new organic regulation

Is the new EU Organic Regulation negotiated until June? Where are still sticking points? That was the topic on the second day of the IFOAM EU congress in the Netherlands. The 200 participants from 27 EU countries listened intently what the negotiators from Brussels brought up in the discussion. There are still some open issues, but the Dutch have indicated their objective of concluding the trialogue between the Commission, Council and Parliament, and to bring the new regulation by the end of its EU presidency on the way. EU organic controls: quite good on paper, but...

In principle and on paper organic controls in the EU work quite well. However, in practice there is still a lot that could be improved in many countries. This is the conclusion we can draw from three reports presented by the Food and Veterinary Office (FVO) of the EU that have summarised the results of a large number of audits carried out by the staff of the FVO from 2012 to 2014.

France: significant organic growth across the board in 2015

The organic market in France has been growing steadily for years. Turnover in the whole organic sector has now reached €5.5bn (preliminary estimate for 2015), which equates to growth of 10% compared with 2014. The number of companies in the organic industry, from organic farmers, processors and wholesalers to retailers, has risen to 42,216, a pleasing expansion of 7.2%.

Strong growth: The Swedish organic market 2015

The Swedish online portal Ekoweb Sverige has summarized the preliminary sales figures for 2015 for the Swedish organic food market.The summary shows that sales of organic food overall has increased by 39 percent to more than 21 billion SEK (2.3 bn €). The total turnover of the Swedish market for food and drink is about 280 billion SEK (30.3 billion Euro). Ekoweb is gathering the data every year. There is also a market report from KRAV the main certification organization of organic production in Sweden.

UK: Organic market grows to 2,47 bn euros

The Soil Association’s 2016 Organic Market Report launched on 23 February, reveals the organic market continued to experience steady growth of 4.9% in 2015. This is the third year of consecutive growth for the UK organic sector, now worth £1.95 billion (€2,47 bn).

Continuing growth of the natural and organic cosmetics market in Germany

At the end of 2015, the role of natural and organic cosmetics as the driver of growth for the German cosmetics market was confirmed. According to the IKW the industry association for personal care products and detergents -  the turnover of cosmetics and toiletries in the German retail trade in 2015 came to about €13.4bn, an increase of 2.4 %.
