The 10th European edition of the Sustainable Foods Summit by Ecovia Intelligence took place in Amsterdam on 7 and 8 June. Speakers from all over the world presented a broad range of topics relating to the model of a future circular economy. The international audience consisting of stakeholders from all over the supply chain was seeking inspiration and sustainable solutions. The conference provided best practice models for sustainable cultivation, processing and packaging, but also for the reuse, recycling and avoidance of waste in order to conserve valuable resources. The sixth edition of the event series BioBorrel had been attended by around 80 stakeholders from the organic sector, as the Dutch online magagzine Bio Journaal reports. For the first time, the presentations were held in English, as one Christophe Barnouin, CEO of the French organic company Wessanen, was one of the speakers at the event.

"The cocoa sector will only be sustainable when farmers earn a living." This was stated in the Berlin Declaration adopted at the end of the 4th International Cocoa Conference that took place recently in the German capital. The three-day meeting of around 1,500 cocoa industry players focused on the continuing catastrophic living conditions of cocoa producers, particularly in West Africa. We took a closer look on the cocoa industry and on the organic sector.

The organisation March Against Monsanto #MAM announced that 2018 May 19th will be the date for the 7th international March Against Monsanto grassroots campaign. The global events will take place in hundreds of cities on six continents with the objective to further educate and raise awareness about Monsanto’s genetically modified seeds and the increasingly toxic food supply, as well as its merger with the German pesticide, GMO and pharmaceutical giant Bayer.
