The total food market was valued at approximately SEK 300 billion (€30 billion) in 2017, including retail, Foodservice and Systembolaget. According to Statistics Sweden, the Consumer Price Index (CPI), food prices rose by about 2 percent in 2017. If the Swedish organisation KRAV takes up a proposal preferred by some people belonging to the Swedish organic community, the consequence would mean that products with the KRAV label could not be promoted as being organic any longer. According the EU rules, products not fully complying with the EU Organic Regulation are not allowed to be labelled as being ‘organic’.

Organic food sales increased by 3.9 billion Swedish Krona (SEK) (€390m) to 25.4 billion SEK (€2.54 billion) in 2016. Organic food sales rose from 7.7 percent to 8.7 percent of the total food market, and online sales stand out with organic food sales now 25 percent of the market. The organic market has been growing for 20 consecutive years and is expected to double within the next 10-year period.

The Nordic region’s biggest co-located trade shows for natural and organic food and drink, health, beauty, eco-living and self-care products took place over 16-17 November. A record 4,912 attendees (a significant 25% increase for 2016) were out in force to see and sample the next-wave of new product innovations from 375 exhibiting companies.

Ekoweb Sverige hat die vorläufigen Umsatzzahlen des schwedischen Biolebensmittel-Markts für 2015 zusammengefasst. Demnach stieg der Umsatz von Biolebensmitteln um 39 Prozent auf mehr als 2 Milliarden Euro. Der Anteil der Bio-Umsätze im gesamten Lebensmittelmarkt stieg um 2,1 auf 7,7 Prozent.

The Swedish online portal Ekoweb Sverige has summarized the preliminary sales figures for 2015 for the Swedish organic food market.The summary shows that sales of organic food overall has increased by 39 percent to more than 21 billion SEK (2.3 bn €). The total turnover of the Swedish market for food and drink is about 280 billion SEK (30.3 billion Euro). Ekoweb is gathering the data every year. There is also a market report from KRAV the main certification organization of organic production in Sweden.
