Die BioFach India mit India Organic (BIIO) fand parallel zum IFOAM Organic World Congress (OWC) vom  9. bis 11. November 2017 im Messezentrum India Expo Mart (IEML) in Greater Noida, bei Neu Delhi, statt. Damit war die Doppelmesse ein herausragender Treffpunkt für die internationale Bio-Branche. Die 184 Aussteller der 9. BioFach begrüßten 9.645 Fachbesucher auf dem dreitägigen Event. Sowohl Aussteller als auch Besucher profitierten von den Synergieeffekten der gleichzeitig stattfindenden Veranstaltungen und machten sie zu einem internationalen Bio-Mega-Event. India: BIIO showed many business opportunities and a market overview

BioFach India together with India Organic (BIIO) took place parallel to the IFOAM Organic World Congress (OWC) from 9 to 11 November 2017, at the India Expo Mart (IEML) in Greater Noida, near New Delhi. The organic fair duo was an excellent meeting place for the international organic sector. The 184 organic exhibitors at the 9th organic trade fair welcomed 9,645 visitors at the three days´event. Exhibitors as well as visitors benefited from the unique cooperation and synergy of the organic events. Watch the video with impressions and interviews.


Netherlands: plus 10 % in organic sales 2016

Organic food sales in the Netherlands increased by 10% in 2016 to € 1.4 billion. In the last ten years, sales have tripled. The winners are mainly the supermarkets.

Germany: organically managed land expanded by nearly 15% in 2016

In 2016, organically managed land in Germany grew by around 162,000 hectares to 1.25 million hectares, which equates to a rise of almost 15% compared with 2015. This growth is divided equally between pasture and arable land. The federal states of Saxony and Bavaria saw the greatest expansion. The biggest areas of organically managed land as a proportion of the total agricultural land were to be found in the federal states of Saarland, Hesse and Brandenburg. Lower Saxony had the smallest share of organic land (3.4%).


Sweden: organic sales reached new record in the first six months

In the first half of 2017, the increase of organic food and beverage is 7-8%, a value increase of SEK 1 billion (105 mn €) over six months. That is the result of Ekoweb´s interim report.


Germany: 9.3 million vegetarians and vegans

On World Vegetarian Day the German the vegetarian association ProVeg (the former Vegetarierbund Deutschland) will provide an overview of current developments in the veggie movement.

 According to a survey 1.3 million people in Germany are vegans. Three years ago the figure was, according to ProVeg, only 900,000.


US-certified organic agricultural production sales increased by 23% in 2016

According to data published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), organic agricultural production sales continued to rise in 2016, as US farms produced and sold certified organic goods worth $7.6 bn.


Canada: 10% increase in organic sales

Canadian Organic Trade Association (COTA) reports that 66% Canadian consumers spend at least some of their weekly grocery budget on organic items. This is a 10% increase from a year ago.

 

 


USA: distributor UNFI grows and is excited about Amazon-Whole Foods

United Natural Foods Inc (UNFI) gets the commitment of Amazon and Whole Foods for their contracts till 2025. One of the biggest US-distributors reports about an increase of  9.5% in the fiscal year, which ended July 29.


GfK Germany: specialised trade’s customers

USA: Export and Import balance

According to a report by the Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft – the Agricultural Market Information Company – the USA accounts for more than half the sales of organic products worldwide, and they are growing apace. As a consequence, the USA has become the biggest importer of organic food in the world, with organic making up a large proportion of the imports of particular products. The main US exports are fruit and vegetables.


Germany: organic land reaches record level

Austria: 60% share of organics in gastronomy

Austria: Sonnentor's turnover up by 12%

Italy: posts new record in organic sales

Nielsen data presented by the Italian Association for Organic Trade AssoBio show a very positive trend in the sale of organic food in Italian supermarkets. From January to April this year, total sales (food, drinks, pet food) increased by 3.7%, up from 0.5% in 2016. The share of organic food in the total food sales increased from 2% in 2013 to 3.4%. Italian consumer purchases in supermarkets have more than tripled since 2009. Also traditional specialized organic shops are growing. 83% of Italian households bought organic products in 2016.

 


Eco monitoring: everything super except superfoods

Die Amerikaner kauften 2016 mehr Bio-Produkte denn je. Ende Mai veröffentlichte der amerikanische Bio-Handelsverband Organic Trade Association (OTA) die Jahresstatistik zum Bio-Markt, der neue Spitzenwerte verzeichnete: Die Umsätze mit Bio-Lebensmitteln überstiegen deutlich die 40-Milliarden-Dollar-Marke und erreichten 43 Milliarden US-Dollar. Auch im Non-Food-Bereich gab es mit 8,8 Prozent ein sattes Wachstum. Der Umsatz des Bio-Gesamtmarktes beläuft sich damit auf rund 47 Milliarden Dollar.
