Organic potatoes from Algeria
by Redaktion (comments: 0)
European importers are highly demanding organic potatoes from Algeria, according to the Algerian Agriculture Minister Rachid Benaissa, who has promised more support for the producers. Algerian potato production has increased dramatically in recent years, AIAB reports.
In 2011, production reached 3.8 million tons, up from 3.2 million tons in 2010 and 2.67 million tons in 2009. Since many farmers have been contacted by French, Italian and Spanish companies interested in importing Algerian organic potatoes, Rachid Benaissa has set an ambitious goal: export of organic potatoes should reach 5 million tons in 2014.
