The Verband Lebensmittel ohne Gentechnik (VLOG) – Association of Food without Genetic Engineering – is continuing its upward trajectory. In the first quarter of 2017 turnover grew by 12.5 percent. On 1.4.2017 the number of articles labelled with "No Genetic Engineering" was 6,170. The association says its forecast for 2017 is turnover of over 4.4 billion euros. Moreover, VLOG has welcomed the five hundredth company to its ranks - Bunge Deutschland GmbH. The Bunge Group is one of the three biggest traders of agricultural products in the world.
Best sellers: dairy products, eggs and poultry meat.
With 1,599 products and turnover of 2.44 billion euros, dairy products are by far the best selling GM-free range. They constitute 55 Prozent of all sales of food bearing the "Without Genetic Engineering" logo. 1,688 GM-free licences have been issued in the egg segment and egg marketers have turnover of 690 million euros. The poultry meat segment consists of 1,392 articles and achieves turnover of 1.07 billion euros.
The Association of Food without Genetic Engineering represents food manufacturers and traders and the upstream and downstream sectors in food production. It promotes food production without the use of genetic engineering, provides information for consumers and issues licences permitting the use of the standardised logo “Without Genetic Engineering“.
