Ukraine: Positive development of the organic sector

Olga Trofimtseva, Deputy Minister on European Integration at the Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, and Natalie Prokopchuk, Project Manager of the SECO-FiBL Project "Organic Market Development in Ukraine", share the same opinion: “The organic market in Ukraine is constantly developing.” According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, the country has 42.7 million hectares of agricultural land and 289,551 ha are cultivated organically. Due to the geographical location, widespread fertile black soils and proximity to potential international buyers, the country has favourable conditions to expand organic agriculture, says an official report of the Ministry.


India: Uttarakhand with a law for organic

The government of  the North Indian state Uttarakhand will soon bring in  a law to  give organic farming a legal backing, writes the Hindustan Times. The reason is a big demand for organic products in the domestic and foreign markets.

Denmark generates organic record growth in 2017

New figures from Statistic Denmark show that the sale of organic food and drink has increased with 31% from 2016 to 2017. The organic market share of the total Danish food sale has now reached 13.3 %.

According to GfK market research, 95 per cent of all households bought at least one organic product in 2017. Discounter Aldi expanded its organic range over the years and has set itself ambitious sales targets in the organic segment for the coming years.


France: Record organic area and turnover

Swedish organic sales increased by 9.3 % in 2017

The total food market was valued at approximately SEK 300 billion (€30 billion) in 2017, including retail, Foodservice and Systembolaget. According to Statistics Sweden, the Consumer Price Index (CPI), food prices rose by about 2 percent in 2017. Ekoweb has summarized the preliminary sales figures for the organic food market for 2017 which shows that organic food sales increased by 9.3 percent in 2017.

The Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL) and IFOAM – Organics International launched  the statistical yearbook at Biofach  2018 in Nuremberg. This comprehensive collection of the latest available data (2016) on organic agriculture worldwide contains data on area, operators, and retail sales: 57.8 million hectares of organic agricultural land – organic market grows to almost 90 billion US Dollars.
