Triodos Bank and the Junta of Andalusia signed a collaboration agreement to provide loans and advances to more than 7,600 producers and 450 companies of ecological agriculture and livestock in Andalusia. According to the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries of Andalusia, Martín Soler, this agreement is of high importance, since it not only provides subsidies but also covers the demand for immediate access to aid. Mr. Soler stresses that the signing of this agreement also includes financial support for a large number of small producers who have difficulty accessing credits due to the economic situation, Ecoticias reports.
For the minister, the main advantage of this agreement is to enable the farmers to obtain liquidity at the time they need it. He explains that in Andalusia organic farming is worth more than 300 million €. The organic market is still increasing, unlike other types of production that are in recession. According to the minister, Andalusia is leading in this type of production in Spain with some 750,000 hectares dedicated to organic agriculture and livestock. The objective in the coming years is to achieve added value through processing and marketing, and in this sense, the ministry came to an agreement with Triodos Bank, the European leader in ethical banking, whose principles regarding organic farming match with the idea of the ministry.
