This years´ BioFach offered manifold opportunities to the European Organic Certifiers Council (EOCC) for informal and formal exchanges. EOCC presented the certifiers´ point of view on panels concerning the NOP/EU equivalency agreement implementation, on the revision process of the Organic EU regulation and in the Think Tank on future certification systems. The most predominant BioFach event– the EOCC reception in the middle of the foyer – was again a full success. More than 60 persons from all sectors of the organic movement – amongst them Mr Joao Onofre (Head of Organic Unit European Commission) - joined the “walking lunch” offered by EOCC and its sponsors Certisys, CCPB, Ecocert International, IMO Group AG, Control Union Certification, Quevera and CAAE. EOCC members and working groups informed about their focus work areas as e.g. monitoring and clarifying the implementation of the new import system or commenting as recognized stakeholder of the EA on a guideline for accreditors in the organic sector.
One highlight of this year´s reception was the publication of the EOCC Pesticide Residues guideline version 1.0 after 2.5 years of development and public consultation. The guideline is now available on the EOCC website as applicable tool for all interested certifiers. Also in future, EOCC will stay on its key mission: to harmonize the implementation and interpretation of current EU organic legislation and to pro-actively collaborate with responsible authorities and equivalent partners to support the continuous improvement of controls and certifications.
