Festambiente in Italy

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

The 25th edition of Festambiente is taking place near Grossetto (Tuscany) from 9-18 August 2013. The international event is an ecological kermesse with open-air organic restaurants offering typical Italian and Mediterranean dishes, organic bars, and a Bio-Stuzzicheria offering snacks with organic ingredients. At the Ecological City, a cinema can be found showing environmental art movies, as well as a theatre, institutional and commercial stands, an Ekomarket with organic and natural products, a new age area (with yoga, rebirthing, shiatsu), ateliers for kids and adults, and a kids’ garden with recycled plastic furniture. Excursions into the nature like canoeing and visits to the park of Maremma also take place. Every night, political events with Italian Ministers (Environment, Justice, Social Affairs, etc.) and other politicians are held on environmental themes, followed by music concerts.

Tenthousands of people come to the annual event, which is a meeting point for different cultures. People can get in contact with environmental associations, as well as with international parks and institutions. These organisations collaborate with Legambiente in projects of solidarity and in actions of protection and valorization of nature and biodiversity. With a competition of extravergine olive oils and organic wines, Festambiente confirms its engagement in promoting high quality products, making them known and appreciated by a wide public.

The organiser Legambiente is the most widespread environmental organisation in Italy, with 20 regional branches, more than 1,500 local groups in the whole country and more than 115,000 members. It is acknowledged as an “association of environmental interest” by the Ministry of the Environment; it represents the UNEP National Committee for Italy, and is one of the leading members of EEB (European Environmental Bureau), and of IUCN  (International Union for Conservation of Nature). The headquarter is in Rome, with a staff made up of fifty professionals and experts on different fields. Among the most important activities of Legambiente are those to raise awareness on environmental issues.
