China and UK partner on sustainable agriculture

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

The Environment Secretary of the UK and the Chinese Agriculture Minister have signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation on Sustainable Agriculture. They also launched the Sustainable Agriculture Innovation Network (SAIN). This new network will provide a clear plan for the development and implementation of the collaboration on environmentally sustainable agriculture between the two countries.

UK’s minister Hilary Benn said that this network would help to learn from each other and to share expertise. This move would not only be important for China and the UK, but for the world as a whole. The Chinese Minister of Agriculture Sun Zhengcai stated that with the accelerated development of the economic globalisation process a series of important issues such as food security, climate change, food safety, environmental pollution, invasive alien species and biodiversity have become the common global issues of concern. He hoped that the two countries would make good use of SAIN to follow the sustainable development concept, create new cooperative models and carry out cooperation in the areas of food security, environmental protection, climate change and the use of renewable energy.
