Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Fairtrade have started a mutual project, which was introduced at Imm Cologne. On the occasion of the fair, the first products with the double label were introduced, selling points were named and the benetifts of companies in small forests were revealed.
The first furniture made of FSC fairtrade certified wood from Bolivia comes from the Southern-Germany based company Quadrato and has been available since January this year. The Swedish company Kährs has recently introduced their parquet floor made of wood from Chile.
The strengths of both labels are bundled to support members of communal and small forest companies in the South. With the combination of both labels, those will get a chance to take part in the world market actively and to receive fair prices for their products. For consumers, it will be easier to find wooden items which are produced and marketed with high ethical and sustainable values.
