Organic project in Ivory Coast

In autumn 2008, BioTropic will start a project in the course of a Public Private Partnership to broaden organic agriculture in Ivory Coast. BioTropic’s partners are CNRA (National Centre of Agronomical Research), the most important agricultural research institute of Ivory Coast, and the regional cooperative of regional small crofters “Bio Ivoire” in Bonoua. The German promoter is the Bonn-based SEQUA, a non-profit service organisation of the German industry.
As a first step, the new Department for Organic Agriculture at the CNRA is created. After systematic training and successful incorporation by BioTropic and Luc Kouamé, the department will offer seminars and courses for organic cultivation methods and for certification, open to everybody who is interested. Furthermore, it will support and service all producers who decide to convert to organic agriculture. After successful certification, BioTropic will export the first organic pineapple by the end of 2009.
