BIOFACH America 2017 in Baltimore: Closing Report

Parallel to the Natural Products Expo, the BIOFACH America – ALL THINGS ORGANIC took place from 14th to 16th September 2017 in the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, USA. As the organisers report, more than 1,500 organic exhibitors, among them 196 fully organic, and over 29,000 visitors came to the exhibition to exchange trends, information about new products and to learn more about the organic sector. A total of 26 different nations such as Italy, France as well as the Netherlands were represented at the American BIOFACH edition.
An expanding organic market
According to the Organic Trade Association (OTA), the US-market for organic products is developing positively. In 2016, around 50 billion US-Dollar were spent on organic foods by Americans and more than 82% of all American households buy organic food. Last year, organic goods like wheat, olive oil and coffee valued about 1.65 billion US-Dollar were imported to America. Consequently, the America’s market is highly interesting for international organic companies.
Organisers of the BIOFACH AMERICA state, that the exhibition was rewarded by a predominantly positive feedback by the exhibitors. Professional participants were overwhelmed by the popularity and quality of the fair and were able to expand their international network within the organic sector.
The exhibitors showcased all different sorts of organic trends and products such as vegan, gluten-free as well as soy-free food manufactures. As Ann-Christin Hoyer of NürnbergMesse states, organic producers presented lots of chocolaty products. However, fitness food such as protein shakes gained much attention by the visitors, too.
In order to offer a complementary program, the BIOFACH AMERICA was accompanied by a solid conference program including interesting workshops and a key note address by international best-selling author Jonathan Safran Foer, who spoke about his road trip through the USA, during which he visited livestock farms, small family-owned businesses to large-scale operations. In addition to that, the fair’s program also offered the presentation of the New Hope NEXTY Awards including accolades for organic products, the Harvest Festival table-top event, morning workouts as well as the “Women in Naturals” gathering.
“This year’s BIOFACH AMERICA – ALL THINGS ORGANIC could simply not have gone better. The mood at the stands was consistently good and 80% of visitors had already secured their stand for 2018 before they left the venue. Organic companies interested in taking part in the next trade fair should therefore register as soon as possible,” recommends Ann-Christin Hoyer, Manager International Exhibitions at NürnbergMesse.
