An alliance of 24 business associations has addressed the future German government with demands for more climate protection. "The economy needs stable framework conditions," the organisations write, "also with regard to the climate". Climate protection is "long-term economics".

The signatories also include associations from the organic sector, such as the Association of Organic Food Producers, the Federal Association for Sustainable Business (BNW) or the Federation of the Organic Food Industry (BÖLW). The German organic farming associations Bioland, Demeter and Biokreis are also among the signatories.

They write that the climate crisis is endangering soils, forests and waters, in short "our business location". The organisations therefore expect the future German government to pursue "a much more ambitious climate protection policy" than before - and give politicians ten recommendations for action:

  1. Incentivised CO2 pricing
  2. Climate check for all legislative and investment projects
  3. Abolition of climate-damaging subsidies
  4. Coal phase-out by 2030 (not 2038 as decided by the government)
  5. An energy transition booster through a more ambitious expansion of renewable energies
  6. Phase-out of gas
  7. Climate-neutral, networked and modern mobility
  8. Utilising the potential of agriculture, forestry and the food industry - the associations also include the expansion of organic farming to at least 30 percent by 2030 (instead of the 20 percent targeted by the government by 2030), halving the use of pesticides and species-appropriate animal husbandry and production.
  9. Circular economy
  10. A climate-neutral and future-oriented economy
