The state organic logo, standardised across the whole of Germany, has been in existence since 2001. The competent authority is the Bundesanstalt für Landwirtschaft und Ernährung (BLE). Recently the seventy-five thousandth product was registered - Bio Planète's camelina oil produced by Ölmühle Moog.
The president of BLE, Dr. Hanns-Christoph Eiden, presented the oil mill with a certificate and said: "The organic logo is a guide for 97 % of German consumers when they are shopping for organic food.“ According to BLE, currently 4,828 companies are each using the organic logo on an average of 16 products. He said that using the organic logo together with the obligatory EU organic logo, the standardised identification of the control organisation and stating the provenance of the ingredients are for consumers a reliable indicator of organic quality.
